Here’s a photo of my grandmother from during the war. She did and survived some pretty amazing things that would severely mess some people up in the head. She is a true definition of a hero, and I miss her like crazy.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER…
… join the military. No branch (Navy, AF, Army, Marines, Coast Guard or any type of Guard or Reserve)
The benefits and the okay money is enticing. The appeal of yourself in a uniform makes you daydream about being swooned over. The promise of bettering and/or finishing your education is wonderfully alluring.
You will not be able to finish college (at least at a normal rate or in a Major that doesn’t correlate with your military job), you’ll get deployed to dangerous and/or boring places, you’ll not see your family for years at a time, you’ll be abandoning your best friends, you actually give up the rights you fight to defend, you could very likely end up in a job you hate and expected to treat it as a career and that there’s no prospect of getting out of for 4-6 years IF EVEN THEN, your life is never your own, you’re treated like a child until I’d say E-6 or above (I mean that literally)…
The military is meant to trap you and screw you over and not allow you to think for yourself. Do think for yourself? You’ll end up with an unknown fate like myself.
Fuck Security Forces, Fuck the Air Force, Fuck the Military (the system), and Fuck Me Raw for feeling like I had no options and that this was a good one.

Fuck this guy. Seriously. By doing this he’s basically shitting on everyone that is choosing to defend their country. Sorry that you are a whiny emo cunt that can’t handle what you decided to do.

'Defend their country' LMAOmore like selling their soul for benefits. you pro military guys are something else.

My Dad was in the Air Force and fought for this country twice. One of my best friends served in the first three tours after 9/11. Both willingly. Both knowing that what they were doing and not regretting it. Because it is what they signed up for. They knew what they had to do. Pro Military doesn’t begin to describe it. I’m pro defending selfless people that know what they got themselves into. Maybe this idiot should’ve done some research. Thanks.

My grandfathers, grandmother, and great uncles all fought, voluntarily, to defend this country as well as the freedom of future generations such as you and I in World War 2.
My uncle served his time in the Marines during the Vietnam war.
Two of my cousins fly Apache and Cobra attack helicopters, and have since 9/11.
Each of these family members of mine have honorably served their country, and have lead rich and wonderful lives. They’ve also held jobs outside of the military which were, financially, more beneficial.
And, of course, yes, the higher in rank you are, the more respect you get. That’s how it is at ANY job. Especially one where the starting pay is less than minimum wage.
If you want to talk post-military careers and college: my grandmother was a full-blooded RN, and one of the best damn nurses you’d ever know. My grandfather was one of the heads for Panagra Airlines in Lima Peru, and he was also a very successful entrepreneur. My great uncle, after WWII, wanted to own a farm, so he got a farm and worked the land up until about 20 years ago when he started renting the land out, and hasn’t worked a day since. My uncle graduated with a BA in accounting, and has done the books for multiple multi-billion dollar corporations before starting his own business helping people start their own businesses. Last I heard, both of my cousins are still in college, and one is taking a break from the Army to teach civilians to fly private planes.
The military is our country’s line of defense, it’s men and women dedicated so much to their country that they would die for it, it’s a stepping stone for young men and women to follow their dreams, go to college, do something with their lives.
Anyone who is against our military is not only free to leave the country and move to Sweden, but you’re also completely ignorant to what is going on with the United States’ government and armed forces, and therefore, you are not allowed to have an opinion.
And, yet, you are because these wonderful people put their lives, their hopes, their dreams on the line so that you could freely express your opinion without having tumblr permanently blocked on your Internet or you even getting locked up for saying negative things about the government in charge.
Luckily, though, this is the United States of America, and here, we will only call you what you are: a moron.

I love the angle of this photo. Usually you only see photos of what’s on stage or of an empty proscenium. Here is where you come in contact with both worlds. The brink between stage and life. It’s magical.
